Rooted in Service: How the Kennedys Found Purpose

and Fulfillment in Newport News

In 1992, Justin Kennedy graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he first met Carmen, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. Now, 32 years later, their bond endures, stronger than ever.

By the late '90s, Justin had earned his law degree from Rutgers Law School and swiftly carved out a name for himself as an entertainment attorney in the bustling landscape of New York City. During this transformative period, Carmen thrived as a technology manager, expertly navigating the surge of the internet boom. Together, they combined their talents and, in 2002, founded TheKennedyFirm.com, a business consulting and media development company. Over the past two decades, their firm has been instrumental in helping businesses expand and thrive through strategic planning and innovative technologies.

In 2010, the Kennedys sought a change from the fast pace of New York City life and chose to settle in Newport News to raise their family. This pivotal decision was heavily influenced by Justin’s mother, Carol Kennedy-Dickens, who was then the Director of the International Baccalaureate Program at Warwick High School. Her deep connection to the community played a crucial role in their decision to make Newport News their new home.

The Kennedys' two sons, Alejandro and Dylan, have thrived in Newport News. Alejandro, a junior at Virginia Tech, is majoring in engineering, while Dylan is a freshman at Menchville High School. Carmen's mother, Francis, her brother, David, and her niece, Kayla, visit often and see Newport News as a second home.

The Kennedys have become integral members of the Newport News community. Active at New Beech Grove Baptist Church, they contribute to media development and support various ministries that offer growth opportunities and resources to the community.

Their commitment to health and wellness is evident through their frequent activities, whether playing golf, pickleball, swimming, or socializing at the James River Country Club. Life in Newport News is both fulfilling and enriching for the Kennedys, who are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the city that has given them so much.
